How does the Flood & Water Management Act 2010 affect you?
The new Act will impose much greater liabilty on developers to obtain detailed design approval to surface water drainage at the Planning Stage rather than at detailed design stage. JNP Group have extensive experience of cost effective approaches to surface water drainage strategy and design and will be pleased to help you....

JNP Group consulting engineers services provided:
The Site
The site of the extension was a grass lawn sandwiched between an existing playground area and the existing school building. It had limited nearby parking and restricted vehicle access which presented major obstacles for the construction work. The school was to remain fully open and unaffected by the construction

The Design
The existing Lawn area had to be surveyed prior to any proposals being carried out to establish whether any existing buried services or drainage runs were present within the site.
JNP Group consulting engineers also had to organise a soils investigation report to be carried, arranging two boreholes to be carried out to establish the local substrate and water table. Trialpits were carried out against the existing building to establish its footing details.
A tree survey of the surrounding area was also carried out to assist with determining a suitable foundation solution.
A piled foundation solution was considered to be the most suitable for the proposals although piling companies had to be liaised with to determine how close the rigs could get to the existing building.

The ground beams were required to be designed with cantilever ends over the existing footings to pick up the the new structural framing over. Due to the height of the existing footings in relation to the existing ground level, the ground beams were limited to shallow depths and had to be designed with varying “T” and “L” shape beams to receive the suspended precast block and beam ground floor.
The piling was carried out during the school holidays but the rest of the ground works and construction was carried out during term time with agreed scheduled deliveries.
The steelframe structure was erected with new columns fixed to the cantilever ground beams with first floor beams designed to support the precast first floor planks and timber flat roof joists.
The external cladding and glazed wall façade were designed and detailed by others and fixed back to the steel frame and when the shell was complete and fitted out the door openings to the existing building were created.
