Sheffield Schools

Sheffield Schools PFI comprised of six new build and refurbished senior & junior schools in the Sheffield area.

• King Edward VII Lower School
• Fir Vale School
• Owler Brook Nursery
• Ecclesfield School
• Mosborough Primary School

The schools comprised single and multi-storey blocks providing classrooms, laboratories, ADT facilities, kitchen and dining halls, sports halls and gymnasia. External works include roads, car parking, coach stations, drainage, all-weather pitches and multi-sports courts.

The multi-storey blocks comprised precast concrete frames and floors whilst the single storey blocks were in structural steelwork.

The PFI contract required Tilbury Douglas to manage the schools for 25 years following hand-over in 2003, to include all functions such as security, school meals, and maintenance etc., other than the educational function of the schools.

All aspects of design related to the length of the maintenance contract with the main structural frames of the buildings having a design life of 60 years.
