Hebden Bridge Library
JNP Group were commissioned by the Local Authority to act as Structural Engineers for the refurbishment of the Hebden Bridge Library. Before this refurbishment project, the Library was a dated Victorian stone built structure with an assemblage of attached buildings all in need of modernization.
The refurbishment involved removing unwanted parts of the building, rationalizing the confused layout and resolving accessibility issues. The Library has undergone extensive structural remodeling, with a new steel frame being built within the masonry envelope, a new lobby was created and an external courtyard was constructed where the old structures had been demolished. Concealed period features such as the existing Queen Post trusses were restored and left exposed in the main library space. The project delivers a successful modern community library fit for the 21st Century, celebrating its heritage with sympathetic architectural enhancements.
