How does the Flood & Water Management Act 2010 affect you?

The new Act will impose much greater liabilty on developers to obtain detailed design approval to surface water drainage at the Planning Stage rather than at detailed design stage. JNP Group services provided:

  • Assessment of Existing Structural Steelwork
  • Re-modelling of Groundworks
  • Drainage and Ground Water Control

JNP Group acted as designer for Serco for the improvement of the access to the platforms from the existing ticket office at Hindley Station on the Wigan to Manchester line. The station has two platforms.

The access to the platforms is via two footbridges, the first running from the ticket office to platform two with access to platform one, from platform two, being over the second footbridge. This second footbridge was severely corroded and had been closed for safety.

The design work undertaken by JNP Group related to the production of Forms A and B for the design of a new footbridge between the two platforms, including the re-modelling of the embankment to the rear of platform one to relieve the load on the retaining wall, thus stabilising the existing wall and steps to the platform. The ground levels at the rear of platform one, adjacent to the stairs, were also lowered to reduce the loading on the existing retaining wall and the top of the brickwork façade walls on platform one were also reduced in height and copings installed to provide enhance weathering characteristics.

The scheme also provided for the installation of a new GRP deck across the first footbridge to provide a level access across both footbridges.
