How does the Flood & Water Management Act 2010 affect you?

The new Act will impose much greater liabilty on developers to obtain detailed design approval to surface water drainage at the Planning Stage rather than at detailed design stage. JNP Group have extensive experience of cost effective approaches to surface water drainage strategy and design and will be pleased to help you....

JNP Group consulting engineers carried out a full environmental, civil and structural engineering design service for this mixed use facility at the gateway to the Cultural Industries Quarter of Sheffield City Centre. The development provides accommodation for approximately 400 students in three blocks spread across two sites with a fourth block containing 53 private residential apartments and 16 “Live/Work” units beneath. The development is located on Sheffield’s inner ring road.

The site had previously been occupied by garages and presented difficulties not only with contamination but also with risk of flooding. By careful examination of the archive records and investigation of the site and the surrounding locality these difficulties were overcome without major affect to the development by a detailed and thoughtful approach to the problems.

Trigon: The structure of all three buildings consists of a reinforced concrete frame with flat slabs and is clad in masonry, glass and timber. The buildings vary in height between 5 and 7 storeys and the building exhibits many interesting architectural features.

The Cube: of traditional load-bearing masonry construction for the private residential apartments, where consideration of the design for disproportionate collapse was a guiding principle. The building incorporates a ‘Green Roof’ to reduce rainwater run-off and thereby helping to create a more sustainable building.

All external drainage for both Trigon and The Cube, handling large potential flows within a tight footprint, was designed by JNP Group consulting engineers.
