Normansfield Hospital
jnpgroup were structural designers for the major parts of the redevelopment of old Normansfield Hospital, for client Laing Homes. jnpgroup were able to provide the client with a fast, accurate and economic solution to suit the tight program restraints on the project.
Principally jnpgroup's role involved the structural design of 3 new build blocks of 3 and 4 storey flats, 2 of which were located over one large basement car park, 2 new build 2 storey residential care units, to be used by the hospital trust and refurbishment of historic workshops in to residential units.

The flats comprised traditional load bearing masonry, using beam and block floor throughout from ground floor up. The roofs comprised loose cut timber mansards. The basement carpark extended under the communal landscaped gardens. To allow simple construction of thr flats, progreesive collapse critereia were designed into the car park roof structure. The perimeter basement walls utilised block faced steel sheet piles. A flat reinforced concrete podium transfer slab was design at ground floor level using FEM software to minimise reinforcement quantities and maximise column centres and give flexibility within the car parking areas.
