Position Summary

Prepare civil and structural engineering drawings in accordance with British Standard design codes, Regulations, etc, and prepare basic calculations.

Main Duties

  1. Prepare calculations, specifications, reports and general correspondence
  2. Check structural calculations and drawings
  3. Brief and supervise Technicians on the production of drawings.
  4. Attend site to inspect various stages of construction works
  5. Exercise due care and diligence in engineering design
  6. Assist other staff in managing the design team in producing and issuing engineering designs
  7. Liaise & communicate with external professionals
  8. Represent JNP Group at in-house and external meetings
  9. Comply with the requirements of the QA system
  10. Maintain own professional development through appropriate learning opportunities

Requirements

Education/Learning Experience
Preferred: Degree in appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline and Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, or similar learned society/professional body

Work Experience
Proven experience in Civil/Structural Consulting Engineering working to UK standards is essential.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to design in structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber.
  • Experience in using proprietary frame analysis software (e.g. SCIA, Fastrack, etc) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the Site Investigation process
  • Clear understanding of UK Building Regulations
  • Keenness to acquire further skills in all aspects of engineering design and detailing
  • Familiarity with proprietary design software
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office and other administration software

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage own workload within agreed time scales
  • Ability to manage the workload of graduate engineers and technicians
  • Report to your Line Manager
  • Meet regularly with your team Mentor/Supervisor
  • Comply with the requirements of the JNP Group Quality Assurance system and other Policy Documents
  • Dress smartly and deal with other staff politely
  • Present a professional face and assistance to all visitors, external professionals and clients
  • Act professionally in the interests of JNP Group Group
