Position Summary

Prepare and oversee the production of engineering designs in accordance with British Standard design codes, Regulations, etc. either by hand or by using the appropriate design software for clients, external professionals and regulatory authorities.

Main Duties

  • Exercise due care and diligence in all aspects of engineering design and detailing.
  • Preparation of detailed drawings and calculations to obtain technical approval for adoptable highway, or sewerage schemes in accordance with national and local authority specifications including S38 and S278 for highways and S104, S106 and S98 etc for sewerage. Projects will include residential, commercial and industrial developments.
  • Preparation of private drainage layouts, external levels, geometric setting out, and construction details etc for residential, commercial and industrial schemes for NHBC or Building Regulation approval.
  • Drawings to be produced using AutoCad or AutoDesk Land Development Desktop. Calculations to be produced using industry standard software i.e. WinDes by MicroDrainage.
  • Undertake pre-purchase feasibility studies and resolution of planning conditions including drainage feasibility and highways considerations. Knowledge of design and implication of flood risk assessments and SUD`s techniques advantageous.
  • Preparation of 3D ground models for volume calculations, cut and fill exercises, vertical road profiles etc.
  • Assist junior staff in their daily duties and training.
  • Assist senior staff in managing the design team.
  • Liaise and communicate with clients and external agencies i.e. Environment Agency, Regional Highway Authorities and Sewerage authorities etc.
  • Represent JNP Group
  • Assist with other traffic / transport related tasks if requested by your Line Manager/Associate.
  • Undertake site inspections
  • Maintain professional development

Requirements

Education/Learning Experience
Preferred: Degree in appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline and Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, or similar learned society/professional body

Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years proven experience in Civil/Structural Consulting Engineering working to UK standards

Technical Skills

  • Good working experience of drainage and highway design and detailing.
  • Working knowledge of LDT 3D Ground Modelling software advantageous.
  • Working experience of all MicroDrainage modules.
  • Working appreciation of highway and general structures
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with proprietary design software
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office and other administration software

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage own workload within agreed time scales
  • Ability to manage the workload of graduate engineers and technicians
  • Report to your Line Manager
  • Meet regularly with your team Mentor/Supervisor
  • Comply with the requirements of the JNP Group Quality Assurance system and other Policy Documents
  • Dress smartly and deal with other staff politely
  • Present a professional face and assistance to all visitors, external professionals and clients
  • Act professionally in the interests of JNP Group
