Position Summary

Prepare and oversee the production of engineering designs in accordance with British Standard design codes, Regulations, etc, by hand and with proprietary design software.

Main Duties

  1. Prepare/check structural calculations and drawings.
  2. Brief and supervise Technicians on the production of drawings.
  3. Attend site to inspect various stages of construction works
  4. Prepare specifications, reports and general correspondence
  5. Assist with design team management
  6. Liaise & communicate with external professionals
  7. Represent JNP Group at in-house and external meetings
  8. Comply with the requirements of the JNP Group QA system
  9. Maintain own professional development through appropriate learning opportunities

Requirements

Education/Learning Experience

Preferred: Degree or HND in an appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline

Work Experience
Previous experience not essential but some experience in design of Building Structures to UK standards may be an advantage

Technical Skills

  • Ability to design basic structural members in structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber to UK design codes
  • Understanding of the Site Investigation process
  • Familiarity with UK standards – British Standards, Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, etc
  • Clear understanding of UK Building Regulations
  • Keenness to acquire further skills in all aspects of engineering design and detailing
  • Familiarity with proprietary design software
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office and other administration software

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage own workload within agreed time scales
  • Meet regularly with your team Mentor/Line Manager
  • Comply with the requirements of the JNP Group Quality Assurance system and other Policy Documents
  • Dress smartly and deal with other staff politely
  • Present a professional face and assistance to all visitors, external professionals and clients
  • Act professionally in the interests of JNP Group
