Senior Engineer – Railway Infrastructure

This position provides an opportunity for the right candidate to obtain a wide variety of interesting experience in providing a service to our clients in Network Rail, Train Operating Companies and Railway Contractors. You will be required to manage a number of small projects on railway infrastructure from GRIP stage 4 to 8, including stations, signal boxes, depots, bridges and other operational properties.

Main Duties:

  • Preparation of railway technical approval submissions (Forms 001, 2 and 3 in accordance with NR/L2/CIV/003) and in accordance with Network Rail Company Standards.
  • Preparation of civil and structural engineering designs using manual calculations and industry standard software.
  • Liaise and communicate with clients and external agencies i.e. Environment Agency, Regional Highway Authorities and Sewerage authorities etc.
  • Represent JNP Group at meetings and in writing when required and attend site to undertake surveys and inspections.
  • Control the programmed performance of projects.
  • Overseeing the preparation of drawings by technicians.
  • Preparation of structural reports on buildings and other structures.

  • You will be expected to attend in-house and external training courses, seminars, institution events, and generally comply with the ‘Continuing Professional Development’ requirements of:

    • The training requirements of the professional body to which you are (or become) affiliated.

Education & Learning Experience:

Relevant experience and degree in an appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline and working towards membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, or similar learned society/professional body.

However, applicants with HND/C or significant relevant experience also welcomed.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Conversant with Network Rail Company Standards and Railway Group Standards.
  • Working knowledge of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Ability to use industry standard computer software TEDDS, Fasttrack Building Designer, S-Frame.
  • PTS & DCCR certification. – Training will be given to the right candidate if required.

 

Competencies:

  • Willingness to work occasional weekend and night shifts for the purpose of surveys and inspections.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage own projects and resources within agreed time scales.
  • Ability to manage the workload of graduate engineers and technicians.
  • Act professionally in the interests of JNP Group.
