Position:

Civil Engineer – Rail

Main Duties:

  • Preparation of railway submissions in accordance with NR/L2/CIV/003 and the relevant Network Rail Company Standards.
  • Preparation of structural engineering designs using manual calculations and industry standard software, gaining assistance from other disciplines where required.
  • Liaise and communicate with clients and external agencies i.e. Network Rail, Represent JNP Group at meetings and in writing when required and attend site to undertake surveys and inspections.
  • Assist in controlling the programmed performance of projects for own discipline and where appropriate other disciplines you are project managing. For example, assisting with the production of fee proposals and ensuring time and financial aspects are achieved.
  • Overseeing the preparation of drawings.
  • Experience of participating in IDC meetings and responding to and closing out DRN comments.
  • Attendance at project review meetings.
  • Raising the profile of JNP across the Rail Industry and bringing JNP to the attention of new clients.
  • Mentoring more junior members of staff and taking an interest in their development and advancement.
  • Promote our rail sector services both within and external to JNP Group.

 Education & Learning Experience:

Relevant experience and degree in an appropriate discipline and holding a graduate membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, or similar learned society/professional body.

Experience of working within  a design team and successful track record of delivering projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Conversant with Network Rail Company Standards and Railway Group Standards.
  • Working knowledge of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Depending on discipline; The ability to use industry standard computer software.
  • PTS & DCCR certification preferred. Training will be given to the right candidate if required.

Competencies:

  • Willingness to work occasional weekend and night shifts for the purpose of surveys and inspections.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage own projects and resources within agreed time scales.
  • Ability to manage own workload and assist with the management of your team including graduate engineers and technicians.
  • Have a commercial understanding of fee management.
  • Act professionally in the interests of JNP Group.

This position provides an opportunity for the right candidate to work on a wide variety of interesting projects in providing our services to our clients in Network Rail, Train Operating Companies and Railway Contractors. You will be required to liaise with people, projects and clients within the Rail Sector. Your specific discipline is to be Structures or General Civils.
