Position:

Senior / Principal Civil Engineer – Flood Risk & Drainage

The role within our Planning and Strategic Land function involves leading and managing the Appraisal and Design of projects for housing, commercial and industrial developments.

This is a career position within a dynamic and skilled business, with a growing portfolio of strategic land projects and well-connected multi-disciplinary services. Progression is assured for the right candidate. 

Main Duties:

  • Pre-purchase feasibility studies and resolution of planning conditions.
  • Flood risk assessments (flood modelling undertaken by in-house team, though experience in either undertaking modelling or working with model outputs would be beneficial).
  • Drainage strategy reports for foul and surface water at outline and strategy stage.
  • Support the development of planning applications and appeals with Flood Risk and Drainage input.
  • Liaise with clients and external agencies i.e. Environment Agency, Local Highway Authorities, Water Authorities, etc.
  • Represent JNP Group at meetings, public exhibitions, planning committees and public inquiries.
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams across Flood Modelling, Drainage, Highways and Geo – ensuring designs are coordinated with all disciplines, including client liaison.
  • Manage the team and control the programmed performance of projects.
  • Support the training and professional development of team members.
  • Input into fee proposals and variations for additional fees. 

Technical Skills:

  • Working experience of FRAs, Suds design & planning stage approvals, supporting SuDS led masterplanning.
  • Working experience of MicroDrainage/Flow/Infodrainage, Flood Modeller / Tuflow (optional), HECRAS (optional).
  • Working knowledge of industry specific guidance and regulations.
  • Use of AutoCAD/Autodesk Civil 3D preferred but not essential.
  • Use of Microsoft Office software packages i.e. Excel, Word, etc.

Education & Learning Experience:

Relevant experience and degree in an appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline and working towards membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar learned society/professional body.

However, applicants with HND/C or significant relevant experience also welcomed.
