Overview
Park Farmhouse is Grade II listed residential property that required a comprehensive structural assessment. JNP Group were tasked with the inspection and reporting upon existing structural condition and evaluate suitability for both ongoing and proposed use. The scope included calculations to verify the integrity of historic timber elements and the design of any necessary strengthening measures.
Project Solutions
Given the property’s Grade II listed status, the renovation of the residential farmhouse required a sensitive multifaceted approach. To support the planning and conservation process, the client employed a heritage consultant to support with the submission of listed building applications and provide advice with regards to preferred structural solutions to minimise impact to the building’s historic fabric.
The historic structure posed several difficulties such as irregular timber beam profiles, the absence of known strength grading and defects. JNP Group’s structural engineers carried out a detailed assessment and verification of the structural capacity proposing alterations to the existing structure where required to meet the client’s requirements.
Throughout the design phase, JNP group liaised with a heritage consultant and the architect to create a sympathetic design, in keeping with the building’s historic character and in the most unobtrusive manner. Alongside this, the historic timber beams were assessed for the effects of decay and suitability for continued use, with remedial strengthening measures specified where required.
