Our Brighouse team had a great time volunteering at Cromwell Bottom Wildlife Reserve, and it was an adventure to remember!

Partnering with the Cromwell Bottom Wildlife Group, we took on a vital conservation challenge: tackling the invasive Himalayan Balsam.

Himalayan Balsam was brought to the UK in the 19th century for its eye-catching pink flowers and tall stems. Since then, it has turned into a problematic invader, growing quickly, smothering native plants, and spreading aggressively, which disrupts riverbanks and damp woodlands.

Equipped with gloves and a can-do spirit, we set to work removing these persistent plants. The immediate impact of our efforts was deeply satisfying, and we ended the day with a sense of accomplishment and plenty of dirt under our nails—proof of a job well done!

Our action-packed day concluded with a fascinating guided tour of the reserve. We learned intriguing details about the local wildlife and conservation initiatives, adding a rewarding dimension to our experience.

The day offered more than just work; it was a fantastic opportunity for team bonding, boosting mental well-being, and supporting a worthy cause. We all left with big smiles and are already excited for our next volunteering adventure
